10 Our Review of Song Covers
In which we take on the technical challenge of recording ourselves and samples of audio all at the same time. We came across the idea to review song covers — remakes of original songs — in comparison with the originals, when Adam was trying to get ideas for how to play Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” on the piano. The rest was a deep dive into so many other songs and how artists recreate something to make it their own, sometimes novel and sometimes not so great. It also just queued lots of memories of music in our lives that walked a fine line between our podcast terrain and the deep abyss of feelings.
To accompany the review on our website (https://mouthsounds.org/podcast/10-covers-review/), we made a playlist on Spotify. It includes everything we reviewed as well as a few others we were considering and had a hard time not including: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IH7brrbWwyyHQSmGlzPMP
Here’s a video of Space Captain in Herbie Hancock’s studio along with the Tedeschi-Trucks band. It’s fun to see how this interaction between musicians looks in addition to what it sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO3sUczuokQ
